I came across an interesting article today — apparently it’s possible to recover data from a dead hard drive by freezing it. The article explains that the process of freezing the hard drive causes the metal to shrink and be able to function for a short period of time. The ridiculous number of responses on the article seem to agree that the technique can work effectively to allow data access for 5 minutes to half an hour. I haven’t actually tried this but I’ll definitely remember it the next time I’m trying to save those old family photos that weren’t backed up.

Opening Scene:
There is heavy breathing. We see out of a thin eye opening. A girl walks around the corner and a man wearing a Boba fett mask attacks. We hear screams and the camera pans over to a clock which suddenly whirls backwards. We see a dark figure putting police tape around a vending machine.
Two detectives are playing pool. They discuss a murder case. One of the detectives says something – a key piece of information – the other realizes something and looks at a clock, which whirls backwards. Read the rest of this entry »

Here’s a copy of a news article from the popular website www.askaninja.com — I’m just passing on the word.

Let me start off by saying we love all of our friends and fans that we’ve made through Myspace.
But sometimes Myspace the company does some gross stuff that violates the spirit it was created under and the values of the Internet itself.Over the last few months there has been a lot of debate over Net Neutrality, which basically boils down to one company blocking access to to another companies servers in order to gain a business advantage. This debate has usually focused on the companies that charge for bandwidth like AT&T, but recently Myspace has pioneered a new form — blocking sites that users link to in their bulletins and profiles.

So there I was standing in the middle of the desolate park armed only with my trusty video camera, surrounded by vicious ninjas. There were maybe twenty or thirty of them, all surrounding me in their stereotypical ninja formation. I should have known. Of course they would come at me from all directions, they obviously didn’t have the power to take me on one at a time — either that or they knew I would run the moment there was an opening in their lines. But none of that mattered. Their ninja leader stepped forward and raised one arm then lowered it, pushing down my camera away from his face. Knowing that these might be my last moments on earth I kept the camera rolling. If I didn’t make it, I wanted the world to know about the ninjas and their evil ways… Read the rest of this entry »

Yes, it’s true that you need to pay a monthly subscription for World of Warcraft. But there’s good news: before deciding to pay 15 dollars per month you can download it and try it for free. Keep in mind that you may need to enter credit card information when creating your trial account — Blizzard won’t bill you unless you buy the game and set up a subscription, though.
1. Download the game.
2. Create your account.
To create a trial account you will need a special game trial key. You can get these from anyone that already has the game, but here are four of my own (each can only be used once, they are all fresh as of November 3 2007).

PS: If you’ve already bought the game but haven’t created your account yet, use one of these trial keys and THEN upgrade it to a full account — you’ll get an extra 10 days of free game time!

So every once in a while you’ll come across a situation where you want to highlight text vertically. Why would you want to do that? Maybe you want to delete a bullet character that’s at the beginning of each line, much like the arrows at the front of forwarded emails.
Wouldn’t it be convenient to drag your cursor from the top to the bottom of the arrows and hit delete? Well you can if you’re working in Microsoft Word. To highlight text vertically, hold down alt while dragging your cursor! This will highlight with re-sizable box, much like the way you can select multiple items in a folder on your computer.

So you’ve been needing to get to your computer while you’re away from home? Easy. All you need to do is use a remote access software — one such service is WebEx. This kind of remote access software basically makes it as if you were sitting in front of your desktop monitor from any computer you authorize.

So I found a pretty cool article on doshdosh.com about sites that offer to pay you for uploading images and sharing them over their network. You won’t get paid much, but here’s a link to the full article:

So you bought a song from the iTunes music store but you cant seem to listen to it anywhere outside of iTunes or your iPod. Yes, that is dumb and really annoying. This is copy protection technology called “DRM” or “Digital Rights Management” and it exists solely to keep you from sharing the song with anyone else. But lets say you just need to get rid of that protection so you can use it elsewhere. Maybe you’re trying to:
- Use a DRM protected song from iTunes in iMovie or another video editing program.
- Listen to your protected songs in Windows Media Player if you’re using a PC
- Transfer your songs to another computer that doesn’t have iTunes
Luckily there is a way to do everything in this world. Here are instructions to get rid of that pesky copy protection. Read the rest of this entry »

It always annoyed me when my friends would log in to this thing they called “the Habbo Hotel”. Now I have something else to worry about. Apparently IMVU is the latest online chat site and its taking over the world. Fear it.
